Bucharest, December 23, 2020 – Although we are at the end of a year that has proved difficult in many ways, kind-hearted people have found the time and energy to set in motion the magic of Christmas. Organizations from 30 communities uploaded 873 letters to the platform www.scrisoripentrumoscraciun.ro, developed by the Vodafone Romania Foundation, and over 2,300 individual donors signed up to the platform with the intention of taking letters and buying gifts for the children. The 837 letters were sent to Santa from Cenade, Alba County; Costești, Argeș County; Oradea, Bihor County; Bistrița, Bistrița-Năsăud County; Bucharest; Spătaru, Buzău County; Cămărașu, Cluj County; Cumpăna, Constanța County; Breasta, Dolj County; Braniştea and Pechea, Galati County; Bumbești-Jiu, Lăzărești and Tetila, Gorj County; Mărculești and Roșiori, Ialomița County; Coropceni, Serbești and Victoria, Iași County; Buftea, Ilfov County; Piatra Neamț and Târgu Neamt, Neamț County; Ştefan cel Mare, Olt County; Ariceştii Rahtivani, Florești and Slon, Prahova County; Dobrin, Sălaj County; Turnu Măgurele, Teleorman County; Băbeni and Pietrari, Vâlcea County.

“When we decided, two years ago, to develop the platform www.scrisoripentrumoscraciun.ro, our intention was to provide NGOs and companies with a free tool for managing letters sent to Santa Claus so that the gifts reach as many children as possible living in disadvantaged communities of Romania. This year, given the context in which we find ourselves, the platform has proven its usefulness beyond what we could have foreseen and we want to thank all those who helped us fulfill the wishes of these children,” said Angela Galeța, director of the Vodafone Romania Foundation.

For the Vodafone employees, this is the 11th consecutive year of involvement in the project, which has become a tradition of the winter holidays. Our colleagues responded to 524 letters and bought gifts for as many children. Like every year, the elves worked in Santa’s workshop where, for two weeks, they checked and sorted the gifts, labeled them and prepared them for shipment making sure they would reach their final destinations on time.

The Letters to Santa program was launched in 2010, initially, for children benefiting from the projects carried out by the Vodafone Romania Foundation and with the participation of Vodafone employees who wanted to bring joy to some children, for Christmas. In 2016, the circle of donors expanded by encouraging employees of other companies to join the project and become Santa Claus for children from disadvantaged backgrounds. The  https://scrisoripentrumoscraciun.ro/ platform represents a new extension of this program, both in terms of the number of beneficiaries and the number of donors.

Vodafone Romania Foundation is a Romanian non-governmental organization, with charitable status, established in 1998, distinct and independent of the company’s commercial operations. In its over 20 years of activity, Vodafone Romania Foundation has funded 1,168 programs run by 745 NGOs from all over the country, in the fields of health, education, social services. The projects had over 3 million beneficiaries – children, young people, the elderly, physically, socially or economically disadvantaged people. To date, the Vodafone Romania Foundation has invested 31 million euros in projects carried out by partner non-profit organizations.
