Counseling and fund raising for hundreds of patients with serious illnesses

Bucharest, July 18, 2019 – From May 2018 to June 2019, part of the project „SMS for Life – Reserve for Adult Life”, run by the M.A.M.E Association, over 370 people suffering from severe diseases received social and medical guidance, information and counseling tailored to the needs and situations they were facing. The Vodafone Romania Foundation supported the project for the sixth consecutive year, the financing for the 2018/2019 edition being 166,800 lei.

Patients who requested the help of the M.A.M.E. Association have received 2,148 hours of counseling, during which they were advised how to access psycho-socio-medical services in the country, but especially abroad. At the same time, they have received support in raising funds to support investigations, medical treatments and surgical interventions at clinics outside Romania, including by providing short numbers for SMS donations.

Since the launch of the „SMS for Life – Adult Life Reserve Fund” project, up to now, more than 2,000 beneficiaries have received counseling. Of these, 60 were eligible for fundraising with a short number for SMS donations. Cases that did not meet the requirements for running SMS campaigns have been advised to use other fundraising tools, with the result that additional 250 people have managed to raise, partially or fully, the funds they needed. In all six years of the project, more than 450,000 SMSs have been sent, the value of donations collected for patients with serious illness reaching over 900,000 euros, funds used to pay for treatments and medical investigations at clinics abroad.
